Early Lupe Xmas...

Chicago native Lupe Fiasco came onto the music scene within the last few years, and has really made a name for himself. Working with artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West, N.E.R.D., Will.i.am, just to name a few. As well as a Grammy to his name.

There's been news about his next album, Lasers, releasing in 2o10. But samples of what he's been working on lately is sprouted all over the internet.

Firstly, he has a new single off of the Twilight: New Moon film entitled Solar Midnite. Great video, but for me, too much movie; vampires and werewolves galore!

Secondly, Lupe Fiasco has also released a new mixtape; Enemy of the State: A Love Story. Tracks that he's been working on. Nothing new, in terms of exclusives, but a taste of his lyrical style. And apparently, soon to be dropping another mixtape within the next few weeks. So look out of that.

An artist to definitely give time to.

From Degrassi to Drake. //

His name: Aubrey Drake Graham, or to some Jimmy Brooks, and to others just Drake.

However you see him, he's hitting it big and is in the limelight. Turned from kid on Degrassi: Next Generation to worldly hip hop artist. Unbelievable.

Currently his signed under Lil' Wanye's label, Young Money Entertainment where his first studio album will be dropped in 2010 dubbed Thank Me Later.

His success began with minor mixtapes leading to the discover from, now mentor, Lil' Wayne.

Anyway. Here's a taste of Drake's latest mixtape "So Far Gone"

Also too, his first video off of the mixtape; "Best I Ever Had".

Definitely check him out, just recently I've been listening to this EP, and its fantastic. So. What are you waiting for, download and listen.

The "New"-print! //

Mr. Shawn Carter is at it again. For the past few months he's been working on is 11th studio album, in following in his Blueprint series entitled "Blueprint 3". As any Jay-Z album, its much anticipated and has a all-star casting of artists and producers, including Timbaland, Kanye West, Drake, Rihanna and perhaps MGMT... Tentative drop date; September 11.

First official single was released at the beginning of the month, being "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)

The second single, which revealed earlier this week is "Run This Town" with Rihanna and Kanye West.

2 other promotional singles were leaked, but are unlikely to appear on the album; Brooklyn (Go Hard) and Jockin' Jay-Z.

As per any project from Mr. Jigga himself, its going to be good. If you're looking to download the singles pack, check it out here. So yeah. Lookout for it in early September.

It's a Discovery! //

This is collaboration is kind of unique, and quite a change in pace. Discovery is basically just 2 guys; keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, and Wes Miles, the lead singer of Ra Ra Riot. In a nutshell its a mix of synth pop with a bit of Auto-tune. Just great summer album! Check it out.

Like Liquor for Punks? //

So you must be wondering about the title... "Like Liquor for Punks"

Well. This is somewhat of a mash. It was created by Heartbeat da Producer (who's also artist) and he took Daft Punk beats and laid down Lupe Fiasco and Common tracks over top. Odd combination, but it works. He used material from Food and Liquor, Lupe's first EP. and Some older tracks fro Common. It really works. For a trial; see here.

Heartbeat has also release a full length, seen on his myspace. It's new to me, but is currently being searched for personal use. From the tracks given at the site, seems legit. But my ears will be the judge.

But yeah. If you like, check it out... click above.

Anyway. It's been a long work week, and going to be a wee bit longer with being in the city Thursday-Sunday. But whatev.

Remembrance of MJ. //

So. It's been a long week of mourning. Farrah Fawcett. Ed Mcmahon. Billy Mays. and the King of Pop; Michael Jackson. MJ's death was tragic, and unpredictable. He was a huge influence to many within the music industry, being a part of what music is today. Just look how Michael's songs have been a major influence to others.

So. Michael was a big deal. His "Thriller" album still holds as the best-selling album of all time, with over 100 million copies, and probably soon to increase after his passing. And the single with the same name, was the first to be a short film turned music video.

Anyway. Here I found two good downloads of Michael Jackson. So check'em out. Click.

So yeah. To a great performer, artist and showman. RIP.

Dat KiD! //

Kid Cudi. I know that you've heard of him before. He's one of those artists where you know the song, but not him. Well. Just to start; He did "Day 'N' Nite" and collaborated with Crookers (really dirty house music) for a remix (which, by the way, both videos are well done). He also made an appearance on a couple tracks on Kanye's 808s and Heartbreak. Recently, he with Mr. West and Common came together to make "Make Her Say", or to others "I Poke Her Face", which was the original song title. In my opinion, good song, but for some reason, already sick of it. Sorry.

But regardless, that's Kid Cudi so far. He's also graced the covers of XXL, where him and 9 other hip hop hopefuls were dubbed
"Freshman", entering a new age of the genre.

Plus so far, he's released 2 mixtapes, that I'm aware of atleast, that are quite good; A Kid Named Cudi & Dat Kid from Cleveland. (click the link to download the albums)

One track that got some attention, was "Sky Might Fall", where; a) it was produced by Kanye West, and b) it was played over the new Transformers
2 trailer. (Note: i know that the clip, ISN'T the trailer, but it works for this)

With this all said and done; Kid Cudi is currently working on release his first studio album to drop this August. Much anticipated. Also. There's word on that he's working on a collab with electronic duo, Ratatat, which I'm a fan and super stoked on. Unknown date, but look out for it.

Other than that, keep an eye on Cudi. He's real close to Kanye West, where he's signed under his G.O.O.D. Music label, so expect bigger and larger things on deck. I leave with a clip, from a previous post...

The Best of Both Worlds. //

Two artists you wouldn't have imagine to collaborate would probably be these two guys; Mr. Travis Barker and DJ AM. Together they've come together to release 2 mixtape's which follow a mashup/remix feel; a la Girl Talk.

For alot of people, the name Travis Barker is well known as being an incredible drummer. You've probably seen some of his own takes on music.

As for DJ AM; different story. We was once the DJ for Crazytown, but from there he slowly gained recognition and fame. He's worked with Madonna, Will Smith, Jay-Z and has played many different celebrity parities including Leo DiCaprio, Ben Stiller, and Jim Carrey.

Before collaborating on the mixtapes they performed together live on various stages. And soon came together to work on creating 2 mixtapes with that mashup feel.

Here's a look at the mix:

For the downloads, just click.

So yeah. A drummer and a dj. Who knew? Till Later

Wake Up Mr. West. //

Kanye Omari West. Some hate him. Some love him. Some have nothing to say about him. But he's quite the musician and artist. From entering the industry in 2001, Mr. West is well decorated with 12 Grammy awards and over 24 million record sales. Pretty damn good.

Anyway. His latest album, 808 & Heartbreak, has been out a few months, but still has that recognition and popularity. Kanye recently released his 5th single from the album, Paranoid, with a delightful video featuring the sultry Rhianna. So hot!

But yeah. For the album as a whole, its different from what you expect with Kanye West. He uses an auto-tune to alter his voice, and that is progressive throughout the album. Many thought this was a experiment for him, and hope that it was. His first thee albums follow a theme... College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation; with the latter dubbed Good Ass Job. But since 808s and Heartbreak wasn't Good Ass Job, we can only hope that that will follow next.

Also. Here are the other singles from 808. I find the videos to be unique and clever. Check'em out.

Love Lockdown.

Heartless.

Amazing.

Welcome To Heartbreak.

Lastly. If you want to download the album... Click

So yeah. Obv. you probably already heard of Kanye before in whatever context. But whatev. Till later.

Mash It Up; American Gangster. //

Shawn Corey Carter... or to us; Jay-Z. He's an icon in the music industry, building his "empire" slowly and steadily. Already, he's recorded 10 records, each going at least platinum, 8 Grammy awards, owner of the New Jersey Nets, married to Beyonce Knowles, founder of Rocawear, and its goes on and one. Very impressive.

Anyway. His latest work, not including new stuff from Blueprint 3, was American Gangster.

If you know already, a film with Denzel shares the same name; American Gangster.

Jay-z's album American Gangster was inspired by the film, making this his first "concept" record.

Anyway. With the release of the album, an acapella version was released as well. This gave the opportunity for producers and DJs to create their own American Gangster album. Ever since its release, there are dozens upon dozens of remixed albums

I've heard my share of American Gangster remixes, but two in my mind stand out:

Brooklyn Soul - Jay-Z and Marvin Gaye

American Gangsters - Jay-Z and Frank Sinatra

Definitely check these out. Very good listens, even if your not fans of hip-hop.

So yeah. Thought I'd share. Till later.

Chip Off The Old "bloc". //

A little change of pace, but nonetheless...

Bloc Party: Basically a bunch of indie rock Brits, who've been around for a while. Already released 3 LPs an
d is worldly recognized. Probably the one song that's familiar would be Helicopter, which is also featured on Guitar Hero.

So yeah. Anyway. Of their three released records,
2 have been remixed. Various artists and DJs have taken each track off the albums, and revamped it to their own. For that, you don't see it very often.

Silent Alarm, which is their debut, was remixed by the likes of M83, Mogwai, Death From Above 1979 and many others. Recently, Bloc Party released their 3rd record, Intimacy, and followed that by releasing its remix. Along with the release, which is quite clever, they allowed for their fans to also be able to remix their tracks as well. Three songs off of Intimacy are available to download, where each track is segmented; individual
parts of the song are isolated. Already, hundreds of each track have been remixed by fans; you can check out the remixes on their myspace.

Anyways. I've listened to both albums; and they're pretty good. By far, Silent Alarm remixed is the better of the two, but that's just me. So yeah. Here you go: (click pics to download)

Silent Alarm

Intimacy

So yeah. Little change up from the usual hip hop. But change is good. So enjoy the music. Till next.

A How To... //

I forgot to mention this before. Many of my music download/uploads posts involves already zipped music files.

Regardless if you use a Mac or PC, all you need to do to be able to listen to the music is:

1. Download the file.

2. Right-click file, and select "Extract to ..."

3. It then creates a folder with the title of the file and all its files within it.
4. Enjoy.

Hopefully this helps! Now you can hear what I hear! Good luck folks.
